Two years ago, Sofia* stood quietly in line at one of our mobile medical clinics in a deprived neighbourhood of a Central Asian capital.
She almost didn’t come. Exhaustion weighed on her body, and a deep depression had shrunk her world to the four walls of her bedroom. Most days, even getting dressed felt impossible.
That day, she met our community health team – people that you help to send, equip, and sustain. What began as a routine health screening became the start of something far bigger.
Over the months that followed, Sofia kept coming back. Our team listened to her story, provided medical support, and walked patiently alongside her as her health slowly began to improve. Little by little, the fog lifted. Her strength returned. Hope crept back in.
As trust grew, conversations deepened. Sofia began meeting regularly with one of our national staff members, asking questions, sharing doubts, exploring faith for herself.
In time, she chose to follow Jesus.
Today, it’s hard to recognise the woman we first met in that screening line. Sofia is now an active part of the project that once supported her. She helps host women’s gatherings, welcomes newcomers, and enthusiastically invites others to access medical care and community support.
But her story doesn’t stop there.
Last month, Sofia invited her friend Alina* to one of our clinics. Alina received treatment, but faced a long, 90-minute journey back to her workplace across the city. Our team offered her a lift. What followed was an unexpected moment of grace.
During the drive, Alina began asking big questions about life, faith, and hope. For the first time, she heard the message of Jesus in a way she could understand.
When they arrived at the café where she worked, one of our women staff members stayed with her, continuing the conversation. That evening, in the quiet after closing time, Alina chose to pray and place her trust in Jesus.
Today, Alina is part of a local church and meets weekly with one of our national team for discipleship.
