All over the world young people want to learn English. This project helps them meet this need.
We produce a daily 15 minute audio programme that uses special English. We use a simple vocabulary; slow speed and short sentences. The topical programmes are varied but are all written from a Christian world view. It is heard all around the world, even in closed countries, via website, mobile app, YouTube and on the radio.
But many learners don’t just want to listen to English – they want to practise speaking English. So we give them that opportunity in English Conversation Clubs, at a local venue or over the Internet using Skype. They also get to develop genuine relationships with English speaking club leaders. We have over 100 clubs worldwide from Latin America to Asia and the Far East.
Club leaders do not need to be qualified to teach English as a foreign language. But many of the team that produces programmes and resources for the project are qualified in this way. Club leaders use the discussion resources prepared by the team to lead conversations about recent programmes. These resources create opportunities to discuss Christian ideas that arise from the programmes.
Leaders tell us:
- ‘I have the opportunity to interact with people who do not know our special friend.’
- ‘It really is a joy.’
- ‘I feel like a counsellor, mentor, and a trusted friend. I enjoy it. I hope that I am sowing a seed.’
You too could show God’s love to people learning English. You could be a missionary from home. If you are interested in being part of our English Conversation Project and want to be trained to lead a conversation club please fill in the form below.
