An interview with Alex
Alex is our Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa and a regular guest on PRAYERZONE Live. Along with his wife Mari and their three kids, they are based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Q. What are some of the projects you are involved with right now?
We are partnering on a project to start a new radio station at a strategic location in a central African country.
This new radio station will be a platform for the local evangelical church to reach out to the predominant people group who have long resisted the gospel message here.
Also, the community development side of our ministry is really growing. In 2024 we hope to send a shipping container full of new hand-pumps to West Africa.
These pumps will be used by our partners during water and sanitation training sessions given to local communities that our partners want to bless with clean water and Living Water.
Q. What is a ministry story that will always make you smile when you think of it?
When we first got Evangelica FM on-air in Guinea Bissau, it was the only evangelical radio station based in the country. Our partner, a humble quiet man, had dreamt of that day for 15 years. People who know him well said that they had never seen him looking so happy!
Q. Tell us how our supporters' gifts have made a difference to a recent project
On my desk right now I’ve cobbled together some equipment that will enable a radio producer in a West African country to make programmes to air to a large unreached people group in West Africa.
The last thing I need is a couple of microphones which I will buy using funds that were sent by some Reach Beyond supporters. God willing I will be able to hand the equipment over in person in a few weeks time!
Q. How can we continue to pray for you?
Please pray using Matthew 9: “Ask the Lord of the harvest, to send out workers into his harvest field!”
Pray for safe travels as Mari and I are looking forward to travelling around the UK to see family, friends and supporting churches over Christmas.
And pray for the radio station in the central Africa country. If you feel motivated to send a gift for providing and helping to install the studio and broadcasting equipment there, that would be amazing! Give here.
