Sergei’s Story

When he was drunk, Sergei* would often beat his wife and kids. But 10 years of alcoholism inevitably took their toll. So, one night after angrily hitting his 9 year-old-son, Sergei had a heart attack.

He was rushed into hospital where he stayed for three weeks.

Sadly, no one visited him during this time.

Feeling rejected by family and friends, Sergei called out to an unknown God: “Why did you bring me here? Why do you hate me so much? What have I done to you?”

When the man in the next bed heard this outburst, he said to Sergei, “All of your problems are not because of God, but because of you brother. But only God can help you with it.”

Then he handed Sergei his headphones and a small radio and said, “Just listen to this radio programme for half an hour. This is the only way I can help you”.

Reluctantly, Sergei took them and started listening to one of our Reach Beyond radio partners. Three hours flew by.

This was the first positive thing he had heard for a long time.

During his time at the hospital, Sergei was like a sponge, absorbing everything. He prayed with the broadcasters and sung along during the praise programmes.

And, he changed.

He changed so much that he did not recognise his old self anymore.

With the help of supporters like you, our Reach Beyond partner reached out to Sergei through radio and inspired him to give his life to Christ.

When he returned home, Sergei asked for forgiveness from his wife and his children.

Now, he is living in peace and love – thanks to the Lord Jesus!

Listening to the gospel on the airwaves helped Sergei turn his life around.

Sergei and many other Christians like him, live in countries where Christians are not allowed to go and share the gospel.

But radio can reach them and can have a great impact, amplifying the witness of local believers.

The light of God shines in the darkness. That is why Reach Beyond does radio.
