Recently, our new Kenyan missionaries, Benjamin and Tess, travelled to Pemwea, Kenya to train the team at Radio Alpha, one of Africa’s newest Christian radio stations.
But this is not your normal radio station. Radio Alpha’s home is an old shipping container that houses some essential broadcasting equipment, two computers and an energetic team of 13 staff and local Christian volunteers.
Despite their passion for sharing the good news of Jesus on air, most of the team lacked any radio training apart from one presenter who worked for a Muslim radio station before he was born again.
Over the course of two days, Benjamin and Tess provided the Radio Alpha team with both the theoretical and hands-on training in radio ministry principles, outreach strategies, content development, programme creation and more. They also gave them assignments to complete.
Sam, the Radio Alpha Station Manager, shared:
"Here at Radio Alpha, we want to offer our listeners good Biblical teaching, spiritual truths, and encouragement that they would not receive in any other way.
And we are very grateful for the training we received. Now we feel better empowered and more equipped to be the voice of Jesus into our community.”
