Broadcast Training

Pastoring a church, operating a hospital or doing bible translation is far different than running a radio station. Yet, most of Reach Beyond’s local partners have never run a radio station when their station first signs on the air, and most of the staff of these stations are volunteers. That’s why we come alongside them and train these eager servants of the Lord. They soon learn the significance of their calling to be the lone Christian voice on the airwaves in their community, and perhaps the only local radio station at all.

Reach Beyond has planted almost 500 radio stations in the past two decades, but we don’t own them. The licenses belong to the partners we serve. They own and operate the stations and passionately take the gospel to their communities.

Training begins on site, days before the station signs on the air. Our team of missionaries instructs the new radio enthusiasts in the basics of broadcasting. How to use a microphone, how to communicate effectively with listeners, how to do an interview, how to produce radio spots and how to run the mixing desk are some of the fundamentals that are covered.

For example, at one station in Thailand, there are 30 volunteer presenters, and each one of them had to be trained before going on the air. They learned quickly and now pour everything they have into their service for the Lord. In fact, this same station won an award from the government for their programming, just three months after signing on the air.

But we don’t stop with the basics. We provide ongoing training, often away from the station. Radio managers gather for the annual or semi-annual Global Voice Leadership Institute in some countries, an intense four-day training that goes beyond doing good radio. We equip these managers to lead their teams using biblical principles. These men and women are multipliers when they go back home.

Please pray for the radio staff serving their communities in some of the hardest places in the world to share the gospel. Pray for strength, boldness, endurance and a continued deep love for their people.
